UPDATE: The DRC presents the Children's Department of the Library with a grant of $1,250 for youth arts initiatives for the upcoming year.
3-part training sessions for COPP and VIP volunteers occur each quarter. All classes are in the evening and are hosted at Cincinnati Police Dept Academy. Downtown COPP and VIP has been implemented, and teams of 2 or 3 are patrolling our neighborhood throughout the week, with both daytime & night patrols. For more information or to receive an application, please contact: Terri Windeler of the CPD or DRC Contact Conrad Thiede.
Residents of downtown have participated in CPOP and SARA (Scanning, Assessment, Response, Analysis) training. Members from CPD's DSU and the Community Police Partnering Center also participated.
The DRC has hosted interactive sessions focused on residents' concerns, with open discussion on possible solutions. Each month at community council meetings and sector meetings, we review quality of life and safety issues and the successes we have had. DRC representatives have been guests on several local radio shows to discuss CPOP & other quality of life issues. Please consider any DRC meeting as the forum to further discuss these issues.
The DRC and Towne Properties have co-sponsored seminars on urban living, focused on quality of life and safety issues. Officer Governor Williams from the Cincinnati Police Academy was a guest presenter.
Downtown Resident Bob Manley conducted a presentation on how residents can successfully impact downtown safety and quality of life. Also during the past 2 years, the DRC sponsored a series of Self-Defense classes for Downtowners and several Urban Living Safety Seminars at a variety of business and residential locations downtown.
Future Urban Living Seminars suggestions are encouraged. Planning of events available and requested. NEXT SEMINAR: Monday, December 4, 2006
CPD and DCI have implemented a very successful sector program focusing on downtown quality of life concerns. Residents are encouraged to participate, and the DRC is represented at meetings. A virtual block watch has been set-up, too. To participate in the Safety Sector Program or to sign-up for Virtual Block Watch, please visit: http://www.downtowncincinnati/cleanandsafe
The DRC has hosted "Spring Into Action", a downtown "spring cleaning" that coordinated with area outreach non-profits and service organizations. The goal was to help downtown residents in their spring cleaning by providing an outlet for clothing & household items they wished to donate. During the winter months, DRC volunteers have participated in several outreach efforts and a Winter Coat collection for those in need.
