July 8, 2008 Member Meeting

Welcome and Introductions

The July meeting was called to order at 6 PM.† Self-introductions of all in attendance followed.

Jim Coppock from Bike/PAC will be presenting at a future DRC meeting. Please come to an upcoming Bike/PAC meeting for the latest on making Cincinnati more bicycle and pedestrian friendly.

Cincinnati Fire Department
CFD was represented by Captain Mike Kirby from Engine #3 at 9th & Broadway. As a reminder, Smoke detectors & batteries are available for residents. Call 352-2303 for details.

Cincinnati Police Department / Downtown Services Unit (DSU) Report
The CPD was represented by Cpt Theege (District 1 Commander) and Lt. Neudigate (Downtown Services Unit).
Lt Neudigate then provided the following updated information:

  • No crime stats available this month.
  • Panhandling flyers and explanation of how to deal with panhandling were made available
  • Upcoming NAACP convention, strong CPD presence is planned and no problems are expected. CPD wants to make sure all visitors feel welcome
  • Visits by presidential candidates McCain and Obama are upcoming
  • 765-1212 is the non-emergency number for District 1. Feel free to call if you ever have an issue or concern.
  • Call 911 if in doubt, CPD is happy to respond and help
  • Residents are invited to stop by the CPD command van on 5th Street by Saks

Questions/concerns raised for Lt Neudigate:
4th & Pike Car gatherings at late hours Lt Neudigate asked for details of these and will continue to watch the situation
No other concerns were noted.

A motion made by Ms Newman and seconded by Susan to approve the May and June meeting minutes passed unanimously.

NEW BUSINESS

Conrad Thiede gave an update on Invest in Neighborhoods. DRC supported a motion to overturn several board members of Invest. Feel free to see Conrad with any questions.

Special Guest Presenters:
May Poulimenos and Mark Norman (the new General Manager) from Bankers Club came to extend a welcome to downtown residents. Bankers Club is a member of Club Corp and membership in one gets you membership club-wide. as a reminder, the DRC August social is at Bankers Club on the 14th.

Michael Maxwell from Market Wines at Findlay Market came to invite and update residents to come to their market on July 24th for Belgian Waffles and Belgian beer. They are looking to add more weekday evening activities and would like resident support.

Montoya Moses from the Convention and Visitors Bureau came to ask for volunteers to help staff the info booth on Fountain Square during the NAACP convention. Freedom Center also needs volunteers to stuff packets.

OLD/REGULAR BUSINESS: COMMITTEE UPDATES
Social Committee:
  • 60 people attended the dog fund-raiser
  • Social at the Hilton Palm Court is upcoming on July 22nd
  • Social at the Bankers Club on August 14th
  • December 11th is social at the Cincinnati Art Gallery
  • New by the end of this week series is coming! Look for surprise social opportunities at any time!
Communications:
  • Concierge program has been a great success thanks to all who have participated
Membership:
  • DRC cards any issues with them not being honored, please contact Casey
  • Please suggest new businesses for discount and card membership
Green Committee:
  • Chris Smith noted the class Gardening in the City happening tonight at 8th & Vine. Lisa Yunkers from City Roots will be presenting. All are welcome
  • Mayor's recycling challenge to increase recycling by 5% is in effect. Let's win!
Treasurer:
  • $1,271 in deposits, $280 in expenses; current balance of $6,125.68
  • See Chris Smith with any questions.
Clean & Safe
  • No new liquor licenses requested or issued in last month
  • Please report any progress with Court Street Deli
  • Please support Court Street Deli by patronizing them whenever possible to thank them for being a good neighbor
ANNOUNCEMENTS
The following announcements were noted:
  • St Xavier Downtown Dash Block Party is Friday, August 1st
  • Angela Lucarelli from Urban Organics is presenting an upcoming class at Park and Vine
  • New restaurant at 29 E Court Caspian Express. All are welcome to come enjoy middle eastern food
  • Ken Mendelssohn from Hilton at Palm Court invites everyone to experience their establishment
  • Teen tube challenge at the library
  • Ushering opportunities are available at the Aronoff Center. July 15th is the deadline for fall 2008 season
  • Macy's Music Festival is coming! All are encouraged to attend!

MOTION TO ADJOURN: A motion was made to adjourn by Hugh Koon. It was seconded by Tim Leslie. Meeting adjourned at 7:00 PM.
