April 14, 2009 Member Meeting

Welcome and Introductions

Conrad called the meeting to order at 6pm, followed by introductions.

Outgoing Presidents' report by Conrad

Cincinnati Police Department Update: Lt. Neudigate

  • Doug Neack - Neighborhood Liaison Officer. "Lock it or Lose it" stickers for vehicles.
  • Marilee Neudigate. March was theft from autos awareness month. Last week there was 1 theft from auto. (as compared to a high of 80+ per week). Significant decrease across several police districts.
  • Monday May 11th at noon is police memorial parade at Fountain square. Prior to parade is open house @ district 1.
  • Saturday, June 20th is civil rights game. Weekend full of events. CPD plans to make this a great weekend in Cincinnati by showing a large presence.

Minutes: motion to Chris 1st, Barb Westendorf 2nd. Passed unanimously.

Self-Introductions of all nominees on slate for board.

Motion to permit non CBD residents: Conrad 1st, George Verkamp 2nd. Motion carries unanimously, no abstentions.

George Verkamp moved to approve the slate as offered.

Passed - unanimously with no abstentions.

  • Downtown considered a hard to count area by bureau, would like your help in building awareness
  • Look for mailers, PR campaign, census workers. Please help make sure everyone is counted
OLD/REGULAR BUSINESS: COMMITTEE UPDATES

Nominating Committee: (by Shirley Newman)
Recommends slate of Chris Smith; David Siders; Allison Kamine; and Marty McGlinchy
At next meeting, DRC will vote on this slate (yes or no). Any additions need to be made today or April mtg show what happened last year.

Budget/NSP
Unchanged since February. 2 page document in agenda packet. Also available on DRC website.
Boundaries were read anyone living within these boundaries was permitted to vote. Motion to accept budget: George Verkamp; 2nd by Mr Kuhn
Vote was taken, 37 in favor; 0 opposed; 2 abstaining. Passed

Green: (by David Siders)
Mayor's recycling challenge. DRC hit its goal of a 5 ton increase. $250 prize for a beautification project.
Green committee to recommend a project to utilize the $250.
Computers and hazardous materials: Hamilton County provides a disposal service during the summer, working with Dan Korman @ Park + Vine. Contact Mr. Siders for details
Library green programs coming in March: Green University 3/31; Bike/PAC - May, Cincy Locavore - June

$20 in deposits; no expenses; $9824.32 balance. Contact Chris Smith with any questions

Clean & Safe:
Liquor license application for Fountain square news. DRC did not object after investigating with 3CDC and Fountain Square mgmt group, CPD.
Graffiti. On the increase in the city, some uptick downtown. Call Ron Mabry with DCI if you see any. They will remove it.
Great American Cleanup on 25th of April. Path to the Taft and additional areas TBD.

Social committee
April 23rd at McAlpin is upcoming social. After hours at May is at Hilton Orchids (tasting). May 16th Saturday at Betts House for picnic. Bring a dish. Noon to 2pm. June 18th at Arch fdn on 9th st. Back at Orchids on July 30th for social.

Open forum/ Comments:
What ways to address the management policies of fountain square.
What ways to help get new tenants in Tower Place Mall.
Request to invite owners of Tower Place to upcoming DRC meeting. Conrad will follow up.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

The following announcements were noted:

  • Gilpin Bagel & Deli 37 e 7th street. Opening 6 days a week.... Open to resident input on hours/offerings.
  • Walk for Kidney Fdn coming up. In April before flying pig. April 26th.
  • Robyn Bancroft Downtown Jazzercise. Emmanuel Center & Christ Church. DRC Special pricing available.
  • New Cincy Downtowners Google group to serve as a member directory.
  • Betts House welcomes all DRC'ers before the next meeting.
  • Architreks tours starting up for the summer. DRC Discount available.
  • Downtown dog park is NOT DEAD. Please contact Chris Wiedeman if you are interested in helping get the dog park going.
  • Dr Bob the vet opened at 427 Plum Street. Please patronize Dr Bob.
