February 9, 2010 Member Meeting

Welcome and Introductions

Andy Chirch, DRC President, presided over the meeting this evening; minutes from the January 12, 2010 meeting were accepted. Attendees introduced themselves and gave a brief statement about downtown living and issues that they’re most interested in.

Cincinnati Police Department Update:

  • Bockfest Parade is March 5th and begins at Arnolds Bar & Grill; Brewery bus and walking tours are taking place on March 6th & 7th ; District 1 Crime Report Trends were presented and robberies were down 41%, assaults remained the same, all other crimes declined; the criminal accused of a brutal attack of a homeless man was located in Las Vegas and will be returned to Cinti for a trial; volunteers for surveillance camera monitoring will be contacted shortly; if interested in volunteering, call 352-4566; eight cameras were installed and need monitoring

Guests:
Due to weather conditions, the guests that were scheduled have been rescheduled to present at a meeting in the future
Craig Vogel, Live Well Collaborative – alternative urban transportation in the city
Jenny Kerr, Passages Lounge - new downtown establishment

OLD/REGULAR BUSINESS: COMMITTEE UPDATES

Treasurer's Report: Chris Smith
Month ending balance is $3,600.58

Communications Committee: Conrad Thiede
Liquor license request – establishment on Elm Street was questioned about the types of items they were going to carry and it was recommended at a formal hearing that they NOT be issued a license. Local residents, schools, churches, and retail establishments were in agreement.

Membership Committee: Casey Gilmore and Alison Kamine
Six new members and four renewals.

Clean, Green and Safe Committee: David Siders, Paul Westendorf & Chris Wiedeman
Soapbox announced the creation of a new city recycling program on their website; larger totes will be provided; residents will be receiving information about this new program; Styrofoam can NOT be accepted for recycling; there was a recycling bin located behind the Taft Museum that was removed because usage was minimal; there are now three communal recycling bins remaining.

Events Committee: Linda Phillips and Marty McGlinchey
Social at Mercantile Library is planned for February 24th 6:00-8:00pm.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

The following announcements were noted:

  • Attendees are invited to congregate at Arnold’s Bar & Grill directly after the meeting.
  • Conrad Thiede, Nominating Committee, described the process of electing new Board Members for the upcoming year at the March Annual Meeting. There are six nominees: Craig Hudson, Susan Lennard, Ben Wissel, Julie Carpenter, Lynne Smith, and Chris Wiedeman. Each person is requested to get involved in an issue that is of importance/interest to them.
  • Fine Arts Fund Sampler Weekend is coming up on February 20 & 21.
  • Volunteers are needed for the St. Patrick’s Day Parade – contact 3CDC.
  • Pub Crawl organized by Chris Wiedeman raised $6,000 for the future downtown Dog Park.
